Beltane

May 1st (or April 30th)(traditional) / May 4th (zodiacal)

Beltane is one of the most popular of Sabbats, celebrated with the colorful Maypole dance. Just as the budding flowers of May, the Maiden Goddess has come of age, full of self-discovery. She meets with the young Sun God in courtship and sacred marriage, and the dance around the Maypole honors the life-giving fertility of the Earth. We weave the ribbons in magick rite as we weave our dreams and plans, and then we leap the Beltane fire for luck and fulfillment of our wishes. The Beltane festival is often chosen for Wiccan handfastings or weddings.
