Fire

fire element Fire is the energy of Life, spirit of the Goddess, and the culminating light of the Sun God at Midsummer. At the South point of the circle, it represents the Sun at extreme South declination, when He fully warms the Earth Mother and infuses Her with the energy that will bring forth the abundant harvest. Fire represents the masculine principle, yang and positive (as in battery charge).

We seek Fire for courage, conviction, energy, passion, strength of spirit, protection (ability to defend ourselves) and the ability to take action. We are aware of its propensity for rashness, anger and hostility if we fail to focus on the higher qualities of the spiritual warrior.

The Elementals associated with Fire are the Salamanders. Other correspondences include Wands (in Tarot), spades (in common cards), any source of fire (candles, balefire), hot and dry winds, Aries, Leo (the Lion), Sagittarius, Mars, the Sun, Jupiter. The color red most commonly marks the South Watchtower in a Wiccan Circle, although orange or gilt gold is also associated with Fire. Although many Wiccan traditions consider Wands (like the Tarot) to correspond with Fire (as the lightning rod that conducts or invokes spiritual energy into the circle), other traditions associate Fire with the sword or athame.
